Seagate's enormous 36.4GB Cheetah 36 hard drive provides industry-leading performance for the most demanding applications, workstations, network file servers, and enterprise servers. The combination of its Wide Ultra2 SCSI interface and 10,000RPM spindle speed makes the Cheetah drive one of the, if not the fastest drive out there! The Wide Ultra2 SCSI interface delivers external transfer rates up to 80MB per second - that's double the current Wide Ultra SCSI standard. The Wide Ultra2 SCSI Low Voltage Differential (LVD) parallel interface provides increased performance for users of video, database servers, RAID arrays, workstations, CAD, CAM, and high-end desktop applications. Ultra2 SCSI extends the SCSI bus cable length to 25 meters (12 meters for 15 devices) and provides easy system configuration for up to 15 peripherals. It is fully compatible with all existing SCSI standards and includes a unique Diff Sens circuit to determine the type of SCSI bus the device is being used on.
The Cheetah 36 has received Seagate's ''AV Professional'' stamp of approval which means that Seagate has fine tuned this drive to meet the requirements of today's most demanding audio/visual applications. It features embedded-servo technology to eliminate the need to perform periodic recalibration which slows down data transfer, making this drive ideal for AV applications. Embedded-servo technology gets rid of data interruptions that cause dropped frames in video applications. The Partial Response Maximum Likelihood (PRML) technology keeps data clear from background interference and allows Seagate disk drives to increase areal density (disk capacity), boost transfer speed, improve yield through the drive's ability to self-calibrate and lower disk noise. It also uses Advanced SCSI Architecture II (ASA II) to increase drive performance and provide easy cross-platform migration.
The 3.5-inch, half height Cheetah 36 drive also supports Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology (SMART) to help prevent data loss and provide advance warning of drive failures. It is compatible with most popular operating systems including, Windows 95/98, Windows NT, and Novell Netware, and carries a five-year warranty.
